Authoritarianism is a political system or style of government characterized by strong central power, limited political freedoms, and little or no tolerance for political pluralism or dissent. In an authoritarian regime, authority is concentrated in the hands of a single leader, small group, or political party, and decisions are often made without the input or consent of the general population. Historical examples of authoritarian regimes include Nazi Germany under Adolf Hitler, the Soviet Union under Joseph Stalin, or, among contemporary examples, North Korea under Kim Jong-un.
